Parent-Child Work

(Age approximately Under 5)

When an infant or young child experiences difficulties it can be very distressing for the parents who may question their abilities to be ‘good enough’ parents.

However, babies are born with different qualities and capacities for coping with frustration, some are more irritable, while others seem more accepting and passive. These differences inevitably affects the way in which the parent-young child pair interact.

This work takes place with parent and child together and is aimed at exploring the parent child relationship, from the perspective that the relationship is something they create together. It can be helpful for the parent(s) to understand more about how and what their child is trying to communicate. Likewise the young child can delight in seeing that their parent(s) are trying to make sense of their communications.
