I work with children, adolescents, and their parents who are having an emotionally difficult time.
Because it can be difficult to talk directly about feelings that are overwhelming, I encourage the use of symbolism and metaphors as indirect ways of expressing what feels “unspeakable”.
This method of psychotherapy has many benefits when working with children and adolescents. Young people and parents can benefit from the use of verbal metaphors, whereas younger children tend to do this through play.
